Training of BCG engineers to modify LIFE Laser Fence prototypes

Tags :

Following from the trials with handheld lasers with different wavelengths, the next step in testing with a different laser wavelength is here. For the permanent trials in the field in Europe, modified versions of the LIFE Laser Fence prototype will be installed at the LIFE Laser Fence trial locations. As preparation for these tests, two engineers of Bird Control Group, Casper Donkervoort and Jan Karssies are trained to replace a green laser for a blue laser in the devices. The engineers had a training in engineering and modifying the components inside the prototype. The modified version of the LIFE Laser Fence prototype can easily be recognized by the blue-painted sunshroud. This is to distinguish the modified devices from the original prototypes. During the training the first device is modified. Soon Jan and Casper will visit the (replication) trial locations in Germany, England, Scotland and Spain to replace and install the modified versions of the laser. Bird Control Group together with the partners are very curious about the impact that a permanently installed prototype with blue laser will have in the short and long term. Results of the handheld trials and the replication trials will be compared to determine the difference.

IRIS and Volterra spread the LASER FENCE project in Castilla y León.

IRIS and Volterra continue to disseminate the LIFE Laser Fence project through field demonstrations to different local entities, administrations and companies.

In recent days, taking advantage of the synergies of other joint projects, they can make the product known, specifically the Handheld Laser, among a large number of people. Among them are leaders of large companies such as Royal Dutch Shell (Dutch oil company), officials of the Junta de Castilla y León and owners and neighbors of the mountains of the northern area of Palencia.

The drones of the company IRIS are the great attraction in these demonstrations and capture the attention of a large number of people. In addition, the progressive population of wild boars in the area, makes grow that interest for all the technology of the project.

IRIS successfully completes its annual flights in Seville.

During the last week of November and the first week of December, IRIS UAV Services successfully executed the annual flights scheduled for Spain for 2018.

IRIS has successfully performed reconnaissance flights in the three areas of the project in the province of Seville: Eoloarroz, Cuarterola and Cucanoche.

During the field work, IRIS drones have captured thermographic images in order to detect and quantify animals in the vicinity of the autonomous laser installed on each of the farms.

To illustrate the trip, along with this news is an example of how this type of camera is able to detect, unequivocally animals. In it we observe a family of wild boars resting outside the laser work area.
