IRIS improving thermal imaging analysis

Tags :

by: IRIS uav services

Last autumn, IRIS subcontracted Greenfield Technologies, a leading company in the use of drones in agriculture. As a team, IRIS is now taking advantage of their knowledge in thermal cameras and software to improve field data collection, calibration & interpretation. Regular sessions and visits by a Greenfield expert have helped to improve our way of working with this type of sensor. We hope to achieve better results at our As Neves trial at capture level and be able to apply this knowledge in the future at our other clients.

IRIS obtaining first results replication trials As Neves

Over the last few months the large scale trial at As Neves (Galicia) has slowly taken form. Even though the presence of wild animals like deer and wild boar is very irregular we have been able to shoot some new video material that we will share shortly. What is clear -like in other trials- that most animals do not give a clear reaction, both boars and foxes were sometimes dettered, but sometimes seemed to ignore the laser signal. This happened with both color lasers that we trialled. We will continue the trials the coming months to obtain more consistent results.

Volterra and FNYH testing new lasers

Tags :

The last week Marta Múgica of Volterra has been visiting the FNYH natural reserve Campanarios de Azaba. Together with the foundation’s biologists they have been walking the areas to observe animal behaviour and see their reaction to the different color lasers. During daylight the trials were inconclusive with few animals and being very shy and jumpy. Also at night the trials had some indication of animals (wild boar mostly) being deterred, but in general it is difficult to draw any conclusions. We support the trial in Galicia that IRIS colleagues are preparing that should give us more video evidence of wild animal behaviour once they are confronted with the lasers.

IRIS and Volterra spread the LASER FENCE project in Castilla y León.

IRIS and Volterra continue to disseminate the LIFE Laser Fence project through field demonstrations to different local entities, administrations and companies.

In recent days, taking advantage of the synergies of other joint projects, they can make the product known, specifically the Handheld Laser, among a large number of people. Among them are leaders of large companies such as Royal Dutch Shell (Dutch oil company), officials of the Junta de Castilla y León and owners and neighbors of the mountains of the northern area of Palencia.

The drones of the company IRIS are the great attraction in these demonstrations and capture the attention of a large number of people. In addition, the progressive population of wild boars in the area, makes grow that interest for all the technology of the project.
